For my purposes it will work fine. The grain is straight and should not be likely to break with hard use. (as though that will happen with me). : ) If however I was John Henry I would probably look up the "craftsman" who made and finished this handle. Substandard work but as I said it will work for me. Probably outlast three of me. If you need a handle for routine work, get one. And it comes with a metal and a wooden wedge. The cut for the wedge is at an angle in the end.
