They all have inadequate battery life for my size yard, and from what I can gather, the battery life declines immediately and only gets worse. To add insult to injury, the battery is a significant part of the price, so replacing it is almost as expensive as a new piece of equipment. So my lawnmower and now my trimmer is corded. This is one of the few corded units you can buy now, since clearly most people do not share my hatred of battery powered devices. My previous trimmer was an older Black and Decker model similar to this one that lasted about 10 years. Still not sure what killed it. This model of Black and Decker trimmer does very well. It has even more power than my old one, and seems to be slightly lighter. The push button advance works OK, but you have to have the trimmer revved up to maximum to get the line to feed. The good news is it feeds relatively slowly, so one push gets enough out to continue. Two pushes usually gets it to the point that the trim line is hitting the cut off blade. The original Black and Decker spool of trim line had very good durability and cuts even hard, thick grass. I live in drought-stricken South Texas, so my grass is essentially prairie grass that becomes like basket-weaving material if allowed to grow up a bit. This trimmer cut through it as well or better than my old trimmer. (That's another reason to buy corded power. Battery equipment would surely gag on that.) I have only used it for a few weeks, so I cannot say if it will be as durable. I hope so. Once the original spool of trimmer line was finished, I replaced it with a spool that was listed on Amazon as a typically bought item. I think it must be Chinese. When I put it in my trimmer, the line feed mechanism immediately ceased to function, causing me to look on Google and You Tube to find out all the reasons why this wasn't working. What I discovered was #1, I WAS indeed putting it in correctly. Also, I did NOT have any foreign debris in the mechanism and the little weight on the ratchet arm was intact. All that was left was the spool as the culprit. So I took the string from the new Chinese reel and re-wound it onto the original Black and Decker spool and put that in my trimmer. The result was perfect operation of the feed mechanism. Therefore, i can say with relative confidence that if you have this trimmer, it is good, but KEEP the original Black and Decker Spools. Do not throw them away when they run out of string. If you are rich, buy only B and D spools.
