Drayton TRV4 White & Chrome Angled TRV & Lockshield

All of the radiators in our old house had Drayton TRVs. They looked good and served us well for over 30-years. Having recently moved into a bungalow, I am in the process of renewing all the radiators, and using Drayton TRVs and check-valves. I have every confidence that these Drayton valves will give us long and reliable service once again. Although the Drayton TRV and check-valve are very well engineered, I was surprised to discover that the tailpipe sections of the two valves are different. I foolishly cut the two tailpipes the same length, based on the TRV's dimensions. However, I had to cut a new tailpipe for the check-valve 3 mm longer. Of course, I appreciate that this may not always be an issue, but, in my case, space was tight and the pipework had to be accurately cut to length.

Well made, reacts to temperatures quickly and accurately. Looks pretty for a TRV too.

The consensus seems to be these are likely the 'best' overall TRV - at a decent price and the pack with valve and lockshield (and radiator tails) is great for a new radiator install/replacement or replace existing valves to TRV. They are sensitive, reliable - but as per other reviews the plastic does break - so I recomment the all-metal chrome versions; unfortunately that pack has 2 TRV valves (one used as lockshield) and is about 2x the price - so to keep costs down either wait for a sale/deal or auction sites. But they do not break. By now Drayton should have fixed the design with an all-metal base or even all metal body at a reasonable cost. IMHO the temperature 1-5 system is too 'archaic' in this day and age (2017) and by now Drayton (and the rest of similar manufacturers) should include an indicator that 'ordinary people' don't need to scour the Internet for to work out what temperature range is meant by each number. In the era of electronic TRVs where both room temp and set temp (in degrees) is indicated these can seem a bit old. A way to offset the temperature based on position would also be welcome by now IMHO - as different installations that cannot be helped for various reasons may require different setting that can be confusing. There are versions with external temperature sensor - though if you need that IMHO you should be looking at electronic options.

These are not the cheapest TRVs available, but they are a good quality reliable product. Plumber had no problem swapping with the old non TRV valves. They look good, make the rooms more comfortable and should save money over time.

And another one disintegrates, thermostat was hardly touched. The plastic inside the thermostat disintegrates and crumbles. We've had to replace 5 of these in recent years. Buy another brand.
