## Overview

Isla's Garden Common Pear Tree Seeds offer 30 non-GMO heirloom seeds of Pyrus communis, perfect for USDA zones 4-9. Ideal for gardeners seeking a rewarding fruit-producing tree with vibrant fall colors and pollinator-friendly benefits.

## Description

Common Pear (Pyrus communis) The Common Pear tree can reach heights of 20 to 30 feet. Fall color is red to maroon. Grow your own edible Bartlett pears. Soil Type: Prefers light, rich soils with good drainage. Will tolerate heavier, clay-rich soils as well. Zones: 4 to 9 Germination Range: 40-60% Indoor Planting: If your seeds require stratification or scarification – do the recommended pretreatment before planting indoors. Planting Instructions: Fill a container with seed starting mix to about ½ inch from the top. Place your seeds 1 inch to 1 ½ inches below the soil surface. Gently water your seeds to keep moist, not soaking wet. Heat & humidity is critical for germination. Germination may occur in 1 week or as long as 3 months (depending on the species). Place the seed container on a heat mat under growing light(s). Keep your growing lights on 14 hours per day. Keep your heat mat on 24 hours per day. Once your seeds germinate, move each seed into its own container under the growing lights and on the heat mat. Keep your seedlings indoors for 2-3 months before transplanting outdoors in the spring (May to June).

Review: Grows well after the correct steps - These require two months of cold in a wet paper towel. Make sure you put these in a wet paper towel in a ziplock bag in the fridge for two months before planting them. I have played around with fruit seeds in the past and I got 0 percent germination if I did no cold storage or even only a month of cold storage which some resources suggest are the minimum amount of cold storage needed. I did these for the suggested two months and got roughly 75 percent germination rates, which is better than I was expecting. But make sure not to cut corners. Cold storage mimics natural settings where seeds sit over winter before growing. Many seeds like pears require it because the fruit matures in the fall, and it would be fatal to the new tree if it germinated on a warmer week in fall and then it froze for the winter. So the seed coat helps prevent early germination. Due to this though, the seed requires this cold time in the fridge. I will buy these again next winter for next spring. They grow fast and after roughly three weeks they are already a couple inches tall. I am still having more germinate yet, so don’t give up on them. Some could take a month or more to germinate. That’s just how pears are. Overall, great product! These are really a fantastic price considering the germination rate and the cost of a single pear tree from a greenhouse.
Review: No good - None of the germinated I did the paper trick and the others I just planet. I won’t be buying anymore better to buy out of store and using those seeds to grow
