A blending sponge is still necessary as the silicone can’t spread the product into corners around the nose very well. HOWEVER, I find it saves a ton of wasted product if you use it to spread around a section of your face and then go back in with your blender sponge. You will use less product and get better coverage. The idea of using silicone makes sense because product isn't absorbed by it. However, while in theory it should work, reality wasn't as kind. It really does just smear over skin and doesn't do much blending.
