I found this foam to work into the bristles very well, it dissolved all products (creams and powder pigment), rinsed out RIDICULOUSLY easy (the most impressive part for me!!) And even removed stains left behind by previous cleansers! I only noticed a mild detergent smell, nothing offensive or overbearing, and the bristles did not seem to be overly dried out when I was done. Will know better when they're dry. EDIT- I forgot to add that while I loved this cleanser for my brushes, it just did not do as well for my sponges/blenders. That's just fine! I'm perfectly happy to continue to use my old brush shampoo on my sponges and this on my brushes. I love it so much I washed brushes that I thought were clean and all of my travel brushes that are stored in my travel case.
