You earn currency by playing lots of minigames. The minigames are easy, the 1st one can be completed quickly. You don't really need to feed and take care of sumikkos. They won't die. Instead, they will run away. It is easy to catch them, just turn unit upside down and back again. Easier than feeding every sumikko 50x. You start with all 5 Sumikkos. I haven't counted to be sure but it seemed like 50-100x feeding per sumikko to get them fully satiated. Food doesn't stay long, they get hungry all too soon.
