## Description

Product description XR2206 High Precision Function Signal Generator DIY Kit The welding installation considerations, follow these steps 1. The components are welding the front board, from low to high principles, namely the first low welding components, such as, capacitor, resistor, diode, etc. 2.Welding IC socket, terminal blocks, finally power socket, adjustable potentiometer. 3.The back with a diagonal cutting pliers to cut short the pins as far as possible. Note: no nuts needed on the bottom of the case. The long screws will cut tthreads into the holes on the bottom. Also the nuts for the short screws go between the PCB and the bottom of the case. The long screws hold the top down over the PCB components, holding it altogether. Debugging steps 1.After completion of welding on IC, XR2206, pay attention to the direction of IC, insert the might damage the chip! 2. check the IC whether against, such as anti please timely correction. 3. Insert the power supply, power supply for 5.5 * 2.1 port, inside outside is negative polarity. For 9-12 v power supply voltage. The waveform may not be stable for more than 12V. Using the step 1. J1 jumper cap plug in, SIN/TRI blue terminals output sine wave (note J1, J2 can only insert one of) 2. J2 jumper cap plug in, SIN/TRI blue terminals output triangular wave (note J1, J2 can only insert one of) 3. SQU blue terminals output pulse 4. AMP : Sine wave, triangle wave amplitude adjustment 5. FINE : Frequency fine adjustment 6. Coarse : Frequency of coarse adjustment

Review: The screws that mount the board can't be used. - Easy build. But there were a few problems. The screws that mount the board to the bottom are way too short but mine also had a 20 pin socket for a 16 pin IC. Luckily I had a spare. Only took a couple hours and I was taking my time. It tested fine but I couldn't get the waveform to lock until I gave up on the 9v supply and went with 12v. The frequency ranges aren't exact but they at least overlap so you can generate anything up to 1.25 Mhz (rated only to 1Mhz though). I took 50 pics during the assembly and consider writing an assembly guide but it is actually very simple to build. No its not as nice as my BK but it works for what I needed it for. Important note though, the XR2206 is made to drive a 600 ohm load so it may or may not perform well if you drive a low impedance load.
Review: Fun solder practice for the kids and useful for what it is - This is a good looking project, well laid out and easy to assemble. I enjoyed putting it together. There’s only a small flaw in the design and unfortunately desertcart doesn’t make it easy to contact the seller or I’d have brought it to their attention privately. The four machine screws that hold the case together are too short. They are exactly the length of the box depth so no threads to add the nut. Otherwise 5 stars all day

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work?**
A: Yes my function generator does work fine, as advertised. frank

**Q: One of the left margin pictures shows displays of the function types. Can a display be added?**
A: No, not from the device it's self. You would need a frequency counter and that type of circuit is not in this generator. What you see for a display is literature information only. It does not depict a circuit function for a display.

**Q: Can more of this item be ordered at a time?**
A: yes

**Q: Whta is the noise figure across the entire 1Hz - 1MHz (not the average) ?**
A: That depends on the on the frequency you are trying to achieve and the components feeding the oculator .

### ⭐⭐⭐ Certainly not "High Precision", but worth the money.
*by M***H on February 11, 2022*

I already own lots of professional test equipment, including function generators. But just for fun, I decided to order one of these just to see what it could do. The "instruction sheet" was totally unreadable, so I took a screen shot of the page showing the parts list and board locations. On that screen shot, the polarity of the electrolytic capacitors is described backwards - you'll have to pay attention to that. But, basically it works. There is nothing "High Precision", about it, as claimed. The square wave is pretty good at the lower frequencies. However, the sine and triangle waveforms leave a lot to be desired - neither of them are close to the triangle or sine waves, and they even look similar to each other. The waveform isn't even symmetrical from top to bottom. Also, the "Coarse" and "Fine" controls are almost the same with a 2:1 ratio instead of a more typical 10:1 or 20:1 ratio. The control for the output amplitude is designed backwards - counterclockwise to increase, instead of clockwise. It does not come with a plug to match the power input jack - you'll have to find your own. I would suggest removing the protective covering from the top plastic piece and rubbing some white water-based acrylic paint over the etched label markings, then wiping it off before it dries. Otherwise, you won't be able to read the text. As it is, the knobs cover up half the text printed above them. The actual XR2206 IC has no markings at all, which can mean that it's NOT a genuine Exar chip, and that would explain why the sine and triangle wave forms are not very good. BUT HEY - it's still worth the $10, and it's an excellent starter kit for a beginner!
