As another reviewer mentioned, the stirrups do wear first, but it is amazing how well these hold up. After all these years the waistband is pristine. And if you've had experiences with cheaper underwear, you know that saying something.Really, the only reason I bought another pair is so I could rotate them through the laundry.If your guy is weirded-out by the stirrups, tell him to take it from me, they are hella pro. If you are a skier, you will love them immediately. The thicker, insulated portion of the leg ends about mid-calf, and the stirrup is just a thin, stretchy Lycra fabric that reduces bulk in your boot. There's no annoying stitched cuff around your ankle, and the stirrup keeps the leg from riding up or bunching in your boot or under your shell pants.But the really great part is the warmth. My legs tend to get cold while skiing in really low temps, but I can stay snuggly warm with these in the most adverse conditions - even if the chairlift stops for awhile! I've tried heavier insulated bottoms from Helly-Hansen, The North Face, Hind, Cabela's, and many others and these are hands-down the warmest.They do seem to "feel" a bit short, but I think Hot Chilly's does that intentionally. They will stretch quite a bit lengthwise, and the whole reason you buy a "tight" style bottom is to prevent bulk and bunching, right? These fit very snuggly and, for me, that is a very desirable attribute. I can't stand sloppy fitting thermal underwear.I am short (5' 7"), but I have relatively long legs for my height. I typically wear 30/30 or 30/31 jeans, and while the size small Hot Chilly's might feel like they are too short, I can pull the waistband to my hips and they stay there, with no bagginess in the crotch. In a nutshell, I think they fit great.The only downside I can see is that they have no fly. I personally find this only mildly bothersome and I think it makes them more durable (fewer seams), but it does mean you have to pull them down to use the urinal. For some guys, that may be the big deal-breaker.I agree with another reviewer that it is a shame more retailers don't carry these on the shelf. They are nearly impossible to find in local stores. I think that is due to merchandising space (these come in a small coffee-can style container versus the hang pack), and price point.These may seem a bit spendy, but believe me, once you've worn a pair, you will understand that they are well worth the price. I've wasted hundreds on other brands looking for something as good for less money and have yet to be even remotely as satisfied as I am with Hot Chilly's. They held up very well and are still in service, but I needed a spare.My original Chillys had a wool / polyester/ lycra / poly-propolene blend, but the new ones are all synthetic, no wool.The warmth factor between the 2 are about the same, but I prefer the wool blend, so 4 stars instead of 5... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does Anybody Ever Look Good in Thermal Bottoms? *by K***G on Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2014* I bought these as a Christmas gift for someone else who's an avid skier. The things that he liked about them: they do keep him warm; they don't sag; they don't chafe; the stirrups keep them from shimmying up your calves, they ride at the perfect spot for him on the hips (not too high up over the waist, and not too low so that he looks like the overweight plumber working under your sink). The thing(s) that he doesn't like: they snag easily.
