Like other Madhu's books(i.e. What's new in Java 7), it is a book that goes to the point, what you need to start to work with Java 8, the differences with previous versions, examples... Forget about the 1000 pages books, when you need to work in a new version in a short time, they are not useful. Very to the point, with just enough in-line code snippets that the book remains an easy read right to the last chapter. Madhu gives a glimpse of functional programming principles and then moves on straight to 'how to', as opposed to many authors who labour too much on the theory. This one is a pretty easy read for any experienced java developer, slimmed down to give just enough to get you going with some of the most significant upgrades to the the java language in recent years. First reading was on an old school kindle, which I wouldn't recommend. For best results, suggest working through on your laptop with your IDE open. May need a little more the a weekend, but not much.
