I think 3M has some prep spray or wipes that I used for the surfaces. I used the tape to mount LEDs on four of my motorcycles almost five years ago and all of them are still tightly secured despite the weather and several of them being mounted on hot engine covers. **Q: is this stronger than gopro mounts adhesive?** A: If I'm not mistaken gopro uses the same tape , if you clean the surface it is going on it will be very strong **Q: how much weight will it hold?** A: I use it to hold large solar lights to my exterior of house. I cleaned the inside of the molding and the doors surfaces with a rag and some gas, let it dry and then used a heat gun to soften the molding, (be very careful if you use this method because it's easy to heat the molding up to much and melt it), after the molding was more pliable, I applied the tape, held the molding to the door until it became cool and voilà, no more lifted door molding.
