The cable that is included in the box is not the power cable. The cable that is hard mounted to the drive on the bottom is the connection for your computer, that being said, it is a true plug and play. Once I figured out that I was the issue by attaching the wrong cable, it worked seamlessly. This is exactly what I need with my new Dell computer, I now have the ability to copy my projects to a CD and add to or edit as I want without a bunch of keystrokes. If you have purchased a new computer without a built in CD-ROM, this is your fix, as well as some extra ports just makes it a fantastic buy.

I've been using the Unitek External CD/DVD Drive for a bit now, and it’s turned out to be a surprisingly versatile little device — much more than just an optical drive. If you’re someone who still needs occasional access to CDs/DVDs and appreciates having extra connectivity options, this model delivers great value. What I Really Like • A 5 in 1 design It’s not just a disc drive — it includes USB 3.0, USB 2.0, USB C ports, plus an SD card reader, making it a handy mini hub when working on a laptop with limited ports. This came in clutch when transferring files from my camera’s SD card. • Plug and Play Simplicity No extra drivers or setup steps were needed. I just connected the built in USB A/USB C cable, and my computer recognized it immediately. The integrated cable also tucks neatly into the base, which makes storage easy. • Wide Compatibility I tested it with Windows 11 and it worked well. The listing also confirms compatibility with macOS and Linux but I didn’t try it on those devices. I used it with a couple of different apps and it worked well with all of them. • Good read/write performance It performs on par with what you'd expect from a solid modern external drive. I was not able to test out it speed when burning items to a disk but when transferring items from a disk or a SD card to my computer it worked well and didn't take long at all. What Could Be Better • Short built in cable While the stored cable is convenient, it could be a bit longer depending on your desk setup. You may need a USB extension cable if your ports are hard to reach. • Plastic build is lightweight It’s portable, which is great, but it doesn’t feel as sturdy as some heavier metal cased alternatives.
