It does ship in two separate boxes that might not arrive on the same day. Be patient putting it together and double check orientation of the pieces.The bed was not very stable on my hard wood floor. I used two L shaped brackets to anchor to the studs in the wall to prevent side to side movement. I screwed these under the bed near the slats (head and foot area). I used one more bracket up top near the ladder to prevent front to back movement.Without anchoring the bed the bolts will eventually wiggle loose.I can't speak for stability on carpet though.
