## Description

THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER* A twisting, pulse-pounding psychological thriller from Freida McFadden, the Sunday Times bestselling author of the highly addictive, global bestselling Housemaid series. *** "You must be our new neighbors!" Mrs. Lowell gushes and waves across the picket fence. I clutch my daughter's hand and smile back: but the second Mrs. Lowell sees my husband a strange expression crosses her face. In that moment I make a promise. We finally have a family home. My past is far, far behind us. And I'll do anything to keep it that way… I used to clean other people's houses―now, I can't believe this home is actually mine. The charming kitchen, the quiet cul-de-sac, the huge yard where my kids can play. My husband and I saved for years to give our children the life they deserve. Even still, I'm wary of our new neighbor Mrs. Lowell. When she invites us over for dinner it's our chance to make friends. Her maid opens the door wearing a white apron, her hair in a tight bun. I know exactly what it's like to be in her shoes. But her cold stare gives me chills… The Lowells' maid isn't the only strange thing on our street. I'm sure I see a shadowy figure watching us. My husband leaves the house late at night. And when I meet a woman who lives across the way, her words chill me to the bone: Be careful of your neighbors. Did I make a terrible mistake moving my family here? I thought I'd left my darkest secrets behind. But could this quiet suburban street be the most dangerous place of all? Unbelievably twisty and tension-packed, The Housemaid is Watching can be enjoyed as a standalone read: and once you start, it will have you up all night racing through the pages until the final explosive twist. Tropes Psychological Mystery Thriller Suspense Mind-Bending Neighbours from Hell Suburban Thriller New Beginning Multiple POVs Also by Freida McFadden: The Coworker The Locked Door Never Lie The Teacher The Inmate One by One * The Housemaid is Watching made the Sunday Times Bestsellers list in June 2024

Review: Exceptional thriller! - Millie and her husband have just purchased their dream house, and they are moving in with their two young children. The children, Ada and Nicolas, do not share their parents’ enthusiasm about the move, and are wary about their new house and surroundings. Millie, on the other hand, is over the moon to start a new life in a good neighbourhood, and leave her troubled life well behind her. But the house and neighbourhood seem to have dark secrets and very soon, Millie starts to suspect that this new move could bring more troubles than happiness to her life. What are her two closest neighbours up to? One seems very oddly behaved, paranoid about everything and spying on everybody. The other one, Suzette, appears to have developed an unhealthy interest in Millie’s husband. As the story progresses, the reader does not know who to trust, every character seems to be hiding something. A well developed story, well written from different points of views, as the narrator is not always the same character. A story full of intrigue, mystery and twists. When I thought I had guessed the ending, I quickly found out I was completely wrong! This book is the final one of the series « The Housemaid », and although it can be read independently, I enjoyed the fact I had read the previous two and knew about Millie’s past life. I enjoyed this book tremendously and recommend all three books in the series.
Review: Enjoyed this series. - I loved the first Housemaid book. I wondered whether to have a break before reading the next in the series-but ended up whizzing straight through that in just a couple of days. Then I thought maybe have a break now; read a different genre-but found that The Housemaid's Wedding was a short, novella length addition-and ended up devouring that too. I still had the thought that did I need a break from the series? Was it too much in one go? I thought about reading something else and coming back here later.... then started this book, and it had that same pull. So good, what a great series. I think the first in the series is the best, but this is still a very good read. This is definitely a slower burn, more ordinary life situations, and then, just when you think-when's something more going to happen..... there are some twists you didn't see coming. Was it enough? For me, not really. Book 1 was so great, and such a hard act to follow. Book 2 was just about as good. The novella-length short story was a nice addition. This was still an entertaining book that kept my interest, but I was a bit disappointed later on with it. I am sorry to come to the end of this, it's been a memorable and enjoyable series.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A murderous End to a series that ran out of steam
*by E***A on 4 November 2025*

Well I really did enjoy reading this book even though I found it was quite repetitive with descriptions and explaining. Millie was annoying in this book, I found her behaviour and attitude didn't go with the woman who used to rescue battered women. She was whiny and a pushover and as a social worker she clearly needs more training, cause how can you misread those red flags. The book was a good read I was kept on my seat I figured out one off at the twists but didn't see that Epilogue (no spoilers). Solid 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐ Millie as a character was a let down and so was Enzo who I liked in book 2. Certain plot points could've been fleshed out and I found the ending was rushed, everything was too connected and the chapters with Ada I didn't feel like I was reading an 11 year old kid. I won't even address the parenting skills of Enzo and Millie 🙄🗡 Millie hasn't grown as a character after all she's been through she just turned into an insecure woman with no backbone, I was expecting so much more from this book but it clearly ran out of momentum.
