The original review and my revised statements follow.6/29/2012 - I really wanted to use this book to learn Camel based upon the comments I read. However the book is based on Camel 2.5.0 that is so old it is no longer available for download from Apache or any of the mirror sites. As of 6/29/2012, Camel 2.9.2 is the latest available. The 2.5 links don't work. :-( Don't waste your money!!!6/30/2012 - I received a comment from the author. It appears that access that I could not achieve from work are available to me from my home computer when I'm not behind a firewall. I have checked again and the same is still true. I can access 2.5.0 from Apache when I'm not behind a firewall but STILL cannot access when I'm logged into work. My employer IT department is blocking what I need. That is no reflection on the book.From my home PC I am able to access the 2.5.0 distribution. My collegue tell me that I should not expect significant changes from 2.5 to 2.7, 2.8, or 2.9.2 with respect to the book and at the same time recommend this book. I will continue to investigate and update/revise this review as needed. What I have read so far is easily understood and well written.I purchased the paperback version. With this book comes a secret code to download a kindle version from Manning. This is the second Manning book I've purchased that has this feature and I really like that. Technical books suck. As each month goes by, they become less accurate. Most technical books are a waste of money compared to free, frequently updated content on the web.But Camel in Action is different.Camel is constantly growing and changing. As of February 2014, the first edition (2011) is still fresh. Camel's online documentation will never be replaced by any book. However, there are things you can do with books that you still can't do online. Thumbing and skimming topics, and going back and forth between topics, is critical for learning a subject as large as Camel.As other reviewers here have already pointed out, Camel in Action is well organized, clearly written, and contains excellent technical diagrams. It can be digested well by Java programmers who have zero Camel knowledge.I especially appreciate the downloadable eBook in various formats at no charge, which is handy when I'm on the road. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice work! *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 9, 2011* I read this book from cover to cover and I very much liked this book. The writing style is clear and lots of examples are provided with maven integration that makes it easy for the reader to follow the concepts being illustrated. Camel is a framework that implements all Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIPs) out of the box and as such it offers a lot of value to organization dealing with these types of problems. In addition to features of Camel, deployment options and monitoring strategies are also covered in reasonable detail which is nice. Although this book teaches one to use the EIPs in Camel, it does not provide a good description of the EIPs themselves, so one might want to supplement this with a book on EIPs. Note that at the time of writing of this book, Camel was at version 2.5 but as of now it is at version 2.7 - on the website code samples are provided for both 2.5 and 2.7 versions separately.
