He is the epitomy of the Heathcliff I'd imagined. The film does have it's flaws; Juliette Binoche tries her utmost to master a Yorkshire accent but cannot quite pull it off, so her performance is marred slightly. Also as a film, the story can feel rushed at times. However Fiennes Heathcliff simply burns with a brooding intensity every time he appears on screen. His eyes convey so much emotion; love, hate, anger, jealousy, sorrow, loneliness even when he is not speaking. The scenery and soundtrack are stunning, as is Mr Fiennes ! This film is an essential for the collection of any Ralph Fiennes fan.

Picture was fine but sound was not so good because the actors clearly had not had elocution lessons!

I'm a bit of die hard WH fan and have seen all the versions. So if you loved the romantic Laurence Olivier version of WH then don't bother watching this. If you thought Laurence simply WAS heathcliff then im afraid you have never really read the book. Quite simply put, Ralph Fiennes is Emily Bronte's Heathcliff. Heathcliff isnt meant to be a mills and boon hollywood hero, he has been twisted and shaped by forces in his life into this cruel shadow of a man. Heathcliff is all about passion and revenge. Byronic hero anyone? the whole point of Heathcliff was as a warning... love like theirs is fine within the pages of a book, but to actually pursue this man in real life? isabella is a stark warning to women everywhere so why then would you want to see a sugar coated heathcliff? He bloody well isnt Mr.Darcy!! that said i didnt love juliette Binoche or think alot of her portrayal of cathy... but the rest of the cast were stellar... a must see for any wuthering heights fan or student of the novel, even just to cast a critical eye.

I am absolutely in love and obsessed by this film- it's the casting and of course Raiph Fiennes. Fans of the book will find it to be the truest adaptation, though it seems rushed, should have been longer as it misses out a lot of important plot points and intricacies. Let's face it, no film is going to beat the best book ever written (my opinion) but if I were going to pick anyone for Heathcliffe it would be Raiph. He is exceptionally fierce and sexy at the same time. ( Raiph Fiennes.....I know you don't have time to read reviews by a lowly reviewer, on amazon when should be changing the beds, but if by the slightest chance you happen to read this...will you marry me please?) He has the 'wolfish' man thing going on. The music is just stunning and maybe I'm sentimental, but I cry as soon as I hear it begin to play. My fave part..."why did you betray your own heart Cathy? You loved me, so what right had you to leave me?" - Intense. and of course Cathy: 'I wish I were a girl again Nelly...We’ve braved its ghosts often together, and dared each other to stand among the graves and ask them to come. But, Heathcliff, if I dare you now, will you venture?"

This is a serious attempt at a cinematic rendering of Emily Bronte's actual novel rather than the usual simple lifting of the romantic aspects of the plot. The Yorkshire moors are seen as a dark, disturbing, threatening presence, echoing or contributing to the natures of Cathy and Heathcliff. The haunting, sparse musical score underlines the mood of sadness and unease. I would not have thought of Juliette Binoche for Cathy, but not only does she look much the way I always imaged Cathy, she perfectly captures the character's mix of wildness, mischievousness and cruelty at conflict with her bourgeois origins. Her take on Cathy's daughter is also clever, accentuating the similarites of appearance and gestures while lacking the mother's passion and wildness so that Heathcliff subjects himself to constant self-torture, reminded of his love and that she is lost forever. Fiennes, who looks far from my imagined Heathcliff, does a superb job with a difficult, complex character, balancing his obsessive nature and innate cruelty to allow for sympathy while understanding how his hurt and hate bring about his bizarre plan for revenge. The movie is not without its flaws, principally the strange choice of making Bronte a character and narrator. Whatever the motive, the occasional voice over merging Emily's words with the character's speech serves no purpose other than to annoy. Maybe the idea was tto back up the title claim of "Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights;" or maybe they were trying to echo the book's narrator, but the dual narrators of the novel serve a purpose, providing a frame and also as two opposing views, one accepting the supernatural while the other debunks it (a bit like Mulder and Scully). On the same note, I'm not sure the movie really handles the supernatural element of the story very well. However, it is a fine movie and definitely the one to get if you want a picture that reflects the actual novel. If you prefer a straight period romance go with the excellent 1939 version.

Ralph Fiennes..! Oh, what an incredible genius you are! Whether it's Harry Potter, The Reader, The Constant Gardener, The English Patient, Schindler's List.....this guy never ceases to impress us by his enthralling performance one after the other. Juliette Binoche & Ralph Fiennes also star in The English Patient and yet again, this super on-screen couple give an excellent performance in this movie. A beautiful rendition of Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights."

Le DVD a une excellente qualité de lecture, mais une très mauvaise qualité sonore !!! En ce qui concerne le film, j'ai été très déçue par le scénario un peu "basique" de l'histoire (trop peu de détails importants des lieux étranges mais intenses, et une interprétation trop simpliste des personnages à la fois passionnés, sauvages et attachants à la fois) Ayant personnellement lu le roman de d'Emily Brontë en version originale anglaise, il n'y a aucune comparaison possible entre l'écriture magnifique sortie de l'imagination féconde de l'auteure et la version filmée commerciale peu convaincante ... Dommage :-(

Il.dvd non è in lingua italiana. Solo inglese o francese..il film è una riproduzione molto buona del testo di Emily Brönte . Gli attori principali sono bravissimi entrambi. A mio parere,un'ottima racitazione
