Defective
Would have given zero stars if I could have. I bought this to replace the exact same thermometer that I have had for a while but that one broke. This arrived and couldn't be turned on. I opened up the battery compartment and as other reviewers have noted, there was not a tab to pull to activate the battery. Maybe it didn't turn on because the battery is defective. I have no idea but it is in its box to be returned tomorrow morning. I originally bought this because it was a Wirecutter choice and I need an accurate thermometer. Very disappointed.

Fast measurements
I bought this because the one I had took 30 seconds for a result. This one takes 10. Readings are about half a degree higher than 2 other thermometers I have but over all it does the job quickly and efficiently.

The directions call for probe covers. The original description said nothing about that. So from my position in bed after hip replacement surgery I am unable to use this device accurately according to the directions. I of course realize I can clean it myself but no thanks to the manufacturer. It’s worth the money but clean up the ad
