I'm sure they were used a lot before we arrived and they were still sharp. We purchased our own set when we got home and used them about 2 months now and really like them. They are easily held and very sharp. I like the variety and have used them all including the peeler. I don't put them in the dishwasher but hand wash them. It's not. That said, they are decent quality knives, but I've not used them enough yet to know how well they hold their edge, nor how well they sharpen, with that coating and all.
