Does the lip of the case protect the screen of the phone? Is it thick enough to prevent the screen from cracks, if you drop the phone face-first?

No, it does not offer enough protection. I had a small drop on the floor and the screen cracked when it hit face down. The lip just isn't big enough to prevent cracks. Get another case protector.

Are there control cutouts to access buttons

There are cutouts for the mute button, the headphones, the charger and the speaker. The volume and sleep buttons are covered by the case, but they have always worked perfectly for me.

Does it come with that logo that sticks out like no other?

There is a small silver logo imprint of the JETech logo on the bottom part of the back side. It shouldn't be noticeable if you have a silver/space grey back. I personally bought this case not so much for the protection of my new iphone but for me to test the approximate size of the iphone itself (ie. to see if it fits in my pockets etc.) before it was released

Is this a hard rigid plastic or is it more like a soft "rubbery" type of material, if that makes sense?

it is kind of between the 2 options you describe...the back is closer to hard plastic, yet the sides are closer to the softer plastic. Not rubbery.
