I have to admit I slept on this for a long time but I'm glad I finally took time to listen. 'Hell on Earth' is that grimy east coast hip hop that isn't made anymore, in many ways its a time capsule but one I dont mind being stuck in. The beats (produced by Havoc) are all huge sounding, sparse and full of atmosphere. Its the perfect soundtrack to a rainy day in the city. This isnt a party album, the lyrics and beats are all hardcore. Even though the album is nearly 20 years old now it still bangs hard. In my opinion they never bettered this album, its a classic and even features members of Wu Tang. Get it!.

Mobb Deepの3枚目となるアルバム。 大成功を収めた"The Infamous"に次ぐ作品となります。 前作の延長線上の流れにある作品で、甘さなど微塵もない仕上がり。 切れ間なく紡がれるラップで示される自己の貫徹。 上モノは高音のシンセ中心で作られたものがほとんど。 前作より有機的な部分、多様性が大きく減退しました。 これを単調と取るか統一感があると取るかは各人に寄りますが、 この全体を支配する異常なまでのミニマリズムには 狂気にも近いものが感じ取れ、個人的には「大アリ」な変化です。 凍てつくような空気感が彼らのストイックな姿勢を更に強めています。 "Drop a Gem on 'em""Still Shinin'"が今作でのハイライト。 非常な世界とそれに立ち向かう意志。その対峙を描く強靭なループ。 己の今までの人生をそこに重ね、前かがみになること必至の出来。 見てくれや威勢ではなく、音楽に宿る感覚をストイックに追い求めた 本当の意味での「ハードコア」と呼べるユニットです。 歴史的な名盤である前作に話題が集中してしまい、 どうしても影が薄くなってしまうこの作品。 しかしこちらも非常にクオリティが高く、 HIPHOPファン、特に硬派なものを好む人に強くお薦めできます。

Classic album from Mobb Deep.

Découvert sur le très tard, à mon grand regret, cet album est pour moi l'un des meilleurs albums de rap/hip hop qu'il m'ait été donné d'entendre mais aussi un des meilleurs albums tout court, tout simplement. C'est simple je l'écoute quasiment en boucle depuis plusieurs mois. Du rap bien lourd, bon flow, lyrics à la pelle. Du vrai rap en somme ! A noter: je le préfère largement à "The Infamous" pourtant souvent considéré comme leur meilleur opus.
