Then center it and finish tightening from top with a screwdriver and then snug the post tight w/ pliers. You can use the included thin rubber gasket or putty to seal in stainless steel sinks. Any sink with a tapered opening needs putty to seal. Don't make the most common DIY error and use too much putty. Just barely more than needed to fill the gap between sink and strainer. Just a thin skin w/ stainless sinks. Only sinks w/ a flat surface under the lip of the strainer will seal w/ the thin rubber gasket. 5 stars for usability, as the spring-loaded ball in the post keeps it up and open till you push it down to fill the sink.
