It's easily wide enough for a notebook computer or two, plus piles of paper at each end. I've just done my annual tax return on mine! The plastic moulding is thick, and solid, but the surface is grubby-white, so I'm for ever trying to wipe it clean. It stacks nicely on end like an ironing board, in fact you could probably use it as a big ironing board.
