Light, Leakproof, and Built for the Trail — The Perfect Mini Flask for Endurance Adventures
First Impression: I picked up the HydraPak SoftFlask for trail running and mountain hikes where carrying gels or liquid fuel can get messy. Out of the package, it feels impressively light and flexible — like a soft balloon made from durable material. The build quality is excellent: welded seams, no chemical smell, and the cap design looks well-engineered for quick access. It’s small enough to fit in a vest pocket or even the waistband of running shorts without bouncing. Real Experience: On the trail, this little flask shines. The soft body collapses as you drink, so there’s no sloshing sound or wasted space — a small detail that makes a big difference on long runs. The bite valve delivers just the right flow, and the wide mouth makes refilling gels or electrolytes easy. Cleaning is straightforward, and the material doesn’t retain odors even after several uses. I’ve dropped it a few times on rocks, and it shows no signs of wear. The only con: if you overfill it, it can be a bit tricky to close tightly until you get used to it. Helpful Conclusion: Perfect for runners, cyclists, and hikers who want a reusable, ultralight way to carry nutrition or hydration. It’s durable, leakproof, and folds down to almost nothing when empty — ideal for minimalist setups. I’d definitely buy another one in a larger size for longer runs.

They Work!
These soft flasks have been a total game-changer for my running and biking routine. I started using them to make my own homemade gels, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made—not only for convenience but also for saving money. I no longer need to buy expensive commercial gels, and I have complete control over what goes into my nutrition. The flasks are easy to fill, don’t leak, and are super comfortable to carry whether I’m on a long run or a ride. The material is flexible without feeling flimsy, and they hold up well even after repeated use. What really stands out is how easy they are to clean—no lingering residue or hassle, which is huge when you’re using sticky gel mixtures. Overall, they’re reliable, cost-effective, and perfect for anyone looking to switch to homemade fueling. I’d highly recommend them to endurance athletes who want a simple, reusable solution that just works.

Great price, good product, perfect for running belts/vest. Tips included in review
Been going strong for year, bought a 2nd for more volume for longer runs. Works great in my Naked brand running belt, one on each side. Tips: Don't completely full, leave just a 1-2 cm at top, squeeze air out then cap. Full/full and they can pop lid off if you like bend at waist and squeeze it. Other tip, I rinse and put in fridge, no grime. I generally just use water, but If I use electrolytes, I rince, the add 1-2 tbsp. of vinegar, squash around, rinse and fridge. I fyou want to air dry, I just slide it over a butter knife propped up to hold it open. No scum/smell/tastes in a year. Great price, good product, perfect for running belts/vest.

Good but hard to open.
I bought the 150 ml flask to replace the hassles energy gels. Gels are expensive, hard to rip open while running, get everything sticky, and if you're running longer than a couple hours, you have to stash sticky empties. So I've converted to maple syrup, and using the hydrapak soft flask. PROS: -Holds 5 oz. That's a lot of energy gel/maple syrup! -Fairly wide mouth, easy to fill, but as it's a soft flask, without a flat bottom, some delicate handling required or will accidentally squeeze contents out before it is capped. -Syrup flows easily through mouthpiece. -It's a soft flask so as I consume the syrup, the flask reduces in size. -Easy to squeeze; colder weather or not, I have no issues getting my energy. -My hands and running vest remain not-sticky CONS: -The only real con for me is the mouthpiece. -It's made of a hard plastic that you twist to open and drink through. It's tight. So sometimes when I go to open it, I accidentally unscrew it. -It doesn't auto-seal after a mouthful, so the flask fills with air before I twist the cap closed. So every time I want to drink, I have to squeeze out a bunch of air. It's a distraction. I may swap out the cap for a bite valve see if it works better. All in all I'm very happy with the flask. My only concern is gauging the amount of gel/syrup needed. I don't want to have too much left over after a run. But that's not the fault of the flask. Not sure if it can be stored in the fridge between runs. Better to use the leftover in a recovery drink. 08/10/22 update. So all in all I'm used to the tightness of the twist cap, and am really enjoying this gel flask. I had thought to swap out the cap for a bite valve one, but as it turns out, my bite valve caps on my other bottles have started to leak when I squeeze the bottles. So now I'm actually thinking of doing it the other way around, and put one of these twist caps on my larger volume bottle, for my drink. I do like this bottle, because the end is tapered, it's easier to quickly stuff back inside my vest or shorts pocket after a drink. Finding the perfect bottle is tough. This comes close for me.

Ditch the individual packets.
Great to DIY your own energy gel. Can fit a lot into just one flask instead of carrying multiple packets, and there’s no trash to deal with.

Handy size
Such a handy size. Perfect fit for the smaller pockets on my running vest. The shutoff valve is a plus.

Love them!
These flasks are so much better then expected! My husband uses them for his long distance running to hold his homemade energy gels. There is no plastic or chemical smell or taste. And they are surprisingly easy to clean! The chia seeds he adds to his gels typically make a mess, sticking to the sides making cleaning a pain. But not a problem with these flasks! Just fill with warm sudsy water, shake it a bit and squirt it out. So easy!

Toxic
Smells and tastes toxic. Great design horrible materials

As described. Small enough to fit in pocket. Gives me three mouthfuls of liquid. But the plastic chemical smell is disgusting. And effects the taste of the liquid. I have washed it out numerous times and have left it without the lid on for over a week and even though the smell is not as strong it’s still there. I’m hoping with time it will eventually disappear.

A disaster of a product. The twist nozzle opens in the same direction as the screw cap lid itself, with the same amount of strength - this leads to me unscrewing the entire lid off each time I do it single handedly on my bike, getting gel spilling all over my bike. Not recommended unless you like gel all over your body. Or if you don't mind using a gel bottle that needs 2 hands to open.
