Certain criteria have to be met for it to read accurately and it has to settle in for a few hours.I keep it in one location to act as the "base" then I use then I use the $7.00 ones you get at Walmart. I compare where the cheap ones are reading in comparison to the Blumat then I test the pots or areas I want to check. **Q: Just got my Blumat 50205. The instructions do not say whether to leave the water in the tube or pour it out ?** A: Yes, just like with a regular Blumat sensor, they always need to be full of water. And when you soak it, be sure to only soak the bottom part - if you soak the top it can stop the meter from working properly. **Q: Will this product work accurately with potted houseplants? A battery replacement did not resolve this. I have changed review as after unit breaking Amazon did help resolve the issue and Blumat themselves were very helpful when I reached out to them.
