## Questions & Answers

**Q: can i use it in the tank? like substrate? i was going to sorround my lucky bamboo with them...??? just got my order, i will put some in the canisters.**
A: You can, but they were designed for use in a filter so that they can maximize the amount of bacteria in the tank.

**Q: Can i use this in 2 fx6’s, and if yes, how many trays can i fill up? i’m aiming on filling up 2 trays for both of my fx6s.**
A: That will probably work if you are using the red trays for other media. If you are pulling the red trays out and completely filling the trays, you may need 2 canisters.

**Q: Do pores get blocked after sometime? If so, can you clean? How durable are these?**
A: Yes the pores can become clogged. Avoid serious clogging by putting your fine mechanical filtration before the Matrix and replace the mechanical filtration before it gets saturated with gunk. I clean the Matrix periodically by pouring it into a colander and agitating it under running water. That keeps the pores open and clean. If the Matrix really gets very dirty, I would replace it. Otherwise it's good indefinitely.

**Q: I'm using this product since 15 days , 2 liter for my 130g but dosen't help reducing nitrate how many days ,weeks need to build the useful bacteria ?**
A: It takes months for the bacteria you need to grow for removing the nitrate. Also depends on how stocked your tank is. You will need 2.2 pounds of matrix per 26 gallons of water to see any difference in nitrate levels

    The BEST media available

Matrix is a high-porosity biological filter media designed for aquarium filtration. Matrix has a vast internal pore network that provides surface area for the attachment of beneficial bacteria. Porosity and high surface area alone should be the measure of biomedia.Matrix has a primarily macroporous internal pore structure. This means the pores are large enough for the bacteria to enter and form stable colonies. Large surface area measurements sound impressive but if the pores are too small the bacteria cannot get in and colonize the media. This means the bacteria can only grow on the unprotected surface of the biomedia. The colonies are vulnerable to washout caused by high velocity “microshear,” which is the scrubbing effect of water flowing over smooth surfaces.Seachem Matrix protects nitrifying bacteria inside the porous network so the colonies remain undisturbed. But there’s more. Under the right conditions natural denitrification can occur, lowering nitrate levels without the need for a special de-nitrification filter. Matrix provides the right microenvironment that allows nitrification and natural denitrification to take place in the same filter.Seachem Matrix will remove ammonia, nitrite and nitrate! Matrix can be used in any power filter, canister filter, contactor or filter sump. Matrix never needs replacing and can be rinsed if it becomes dirty.

Wonderful Filter Media That Requires Very Little Maintenance.

*by T***. on Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2015*

I purchased the 1 gallon sized Matrix due to the cost savings when split with a friend. We each got 2L of Matrix for our canister filters. This filter media works very well. My water is clear. My water tests all show good values, with no signs of ammonia, nitrate or nitrites. All fish are happy and thriving. My planted tank is looking great!I can't say how this will work over years, but for the last 2.5 months, this has been doing its job and the fish are all thriving.Maintenance thus far has been a bi-weekly rinse out of my filter sponges, and for the first time, a quick shake and rinse of the basket full of Matrix. I didn't scrub or do anything to remove more than the loose sludge that was sitting on the media. My sense is the less you do in disturbing the good bacteria, the better. Just need to clean out the gunk to allow for good water flow.I had some extra and added it to my son's 3 gallon tank filter. I can't say it's changed the world, but I would think it's helping in keeping those fish happy too.
