    a very compelling read

if like me you are a superman fan and have always loved christopher reeve as superman, reading his book which, i must say is very very easy to read. hard to put down!its almost as if he is in theroom with you telling you everything thats in the book.id have loved to have met him, he sounded such a nice guy. so normal, unnasuming.it is an emotional read and, in real life he was a genuine superman right until the end.he worked ever so hard fighting to regain mobility in parts of his body.he documents this very well and, he must have had such immense will power where, most people would have thrown the towel in.also, in a weird kind of way, it was beneficial that he was a celebrity as, after his accident he rallied lots and lots and pushed and pushed neuroscientists and doctors from around the globe to look into cell cloning for spinal injury patients such as himself.if he were an average joe, im sure that he would have fallen on the wey-side.since his campaigning and his avid interest in how the spinal cord could be repaired via scientific research and cell cloning, his Foundation that he and his late wife Dana left a legacy for...has helped so many hundreds of people who have been paralysed just like Reeves was, or who suffer from other ailments which renders them wheelchair bound.when Reeve was first injured in 1995, there was absoultely NO texts on spinal cord injury...only a small book which he mentions may have been written in the ice age.No one had purseued it and, those poor souls who were paralysed/wheel chair bound etc...just had to 'live with it'.What CHristopher Reeves left, his legacy, his fight to regain motor movement in his own body, his support and becoming an advocate for those thousands of people in a similar situation to him....has pushed scientists to pull their fingers out and clone cells, and funding from the Foundation has enabled those patients monies to get treatments, care etc.Reeve's struggle to get his body to work...any which way he could, amazed scientists and carers and specialists of the spinal cord and paralysis.what he had done, staying strong, gaining and training his hand to move, or his foot to move or his finger to move....scientists for years and years and specialists to...had denied that anyone with is level of injury would never be able to do such a thing.his form of paralysis was the most severe and, he went out of his way to really fight and work hard to prove those all wrong.he did and, it was enough to start the ball rolling and flourish to foresee treatment and research with the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation. He will always be my hero and, it breaks my heart to think that he worked really hard...he really did try hard and you feel it - and his frustrations in the book.ultimately, and rather unfairly, it was a bedsore that got septic which ultimately killed him.sad sad, very sad. may he rest in peice, able bodied, pain free and being the superman he was to his wife Dana who, god rest her soul is in a better place, with Christopher.

    There is only one Superman

I guess I am biased here, but Christopher Reeve is one of childhood heroes.Loved the book. I have bought it as a present for a few close friends who arent avid fans, but they have all said how amazing a man he was and how the book is really though provoking. No sign of self pity. Wish I could have got to know him.

Having read this years ago, I knew it was a good autobiography. It is written well. Is very moving and honestly written.
