Is this set missing the 25mm, 28mm, 29mm sockets?

Correct. It does not contain a 25mm, 28mm or 29mm socket in either shallow or deep.

Would these sockets survive in the diesel and heavy equipment field?

Yes. We have a fleet of 30 triaxle trucks that we have extended each frame ourselves to max legal length. So not only do they survive maintenence, they survive pounding of setting and removing rusty cross members, suspensions, etc. The only sunex socket I have broken was a 3/4 drive 1 and 5/16 used for truck lugs. After 4 years of using an adapter to 1 inch with snap on 1 inch anvil gun it finally cracked, which is insane considering those guys throw 1000+ ft lb torque. I just wish they made chrome sockets so I wouldn't have to buy from snap on because idk how they do it but they make a great product for cheap.

does it really have a locking pin?

I ordered the lock pin style but received ball spring style instead.
