I've just done some investigating & you can buy converter to change from a threaded quill stem to a threadless stem, just search "quill stem converter". And once fitted do i need anything else or is this all i need to charge a phone** A: It's a doddle. I'm using a shimano Dynamo and the 2 pin connector just clips on. I managed to get a super-clean installation by running the wire through the fork and out through a drainage hole about an inch from the skewer. I'd recommend passing a gear cable retrograde to pull the wire through because it's pretty flimsy. Other than that, whip your olf top cap off and replace with the unit using the longer bolt. I've yet to fully test it out, I'm only planning to charge battery packs rather than charge accessories directly. But on a quick spin up the road it seemed to power up a cheapo supermarket usb chargeable light. I then recharge my Garmin/i phone/camera off the cache battery as and when required. There is some useful charge at low speeds especially if you're spending long hours in the saddle but the faster you're going the better! I have my unit mounted on the stem so its very neat - the cap can twizzle round to protect the usb port when not in use. I know some bike packers have the unit in a handlebar bag rather than mounted for really wet weather protection. So theres lots of options for setting up. The connecting lead from the hub to the unit is thin so some care is required when setting up, but the company supply spares which I have used and the delivery has been swift. I have always had a prompt response to any queries about use, supply and spares etc. I have used it for multi day trips and am pleased.
