In fact, for all of the build up on them, they looked worse than a cheap set of Walmart dumbbells. I found thick hunks of dried enamel, paint on the handle, and they were both ugly, and not comfortable to hold. I contacted the seller, and they offered to replace or refund. I told them that I was not happy with the purchase, but then decided that I would keep them and make due, because I don't have the desire to get into one of these back and forths. So, I stripped off the enamel, and intended to repaint. What I found under the paint was worse than I thought, and I was very surprised. I thought these were high quality, and comparable to the made in America dumbbells of yesteryear. Well that wasn't the case, and I had to fill in gaps with steel infused epoxy putty. The knurling on the handle of one didn't go all the way around, and the handles were not finely machined. The hex parts were pitted, and casting seams were visible, and had to be filed off with a bastard file. It took several days of work to get them ready to be repainted. Well, now that they are done, I do use them, and after all. they are just chunks of metal. They arrived in a package that was literally destroyed and so they had some dings on them. That won't of course affect their usability, however, it would have been nice to get them in new condition. They also have a bit of a chemical smell to them (akin to the smell you encounter in an auto repair shop). I also ordered the 15-pound dumbbells and they arrived the same way. ### ⭐⭐ Uncomfortable for my long fingers *by G***L on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on May 12, 2015* Saw the ergonomic handle and thought, looks neat, I'll try it. My hands are not fans of the ergonomic design. The 8 lb weight puts all the force on my middle finger. Feels like it hurts to the bone and that only the bone is holding all the weight. It feels like 8 lb on my middle finger. It's not something I want to lift, pick up, or even move. The ergonomic design just wasn't for me. Try it in a store and see if you like it. My 10 lb weights are more comfortable with straight handles.The rough edges next to weights could've been smoothed off more. Mine had a little raised strip that I could feel along the handle and didn't like on one weight. Probably barely noticeable for someone else. I'm just sensitive to that stuff. I kept rotating the weight so I wouldn't feel it. I have long fingers so maybe that's why the ergonomic design didn't work so well for me. Family and friends tell me they are perfect for piano. So if you've got piano hands, try the ergonomic before you buy.Straight handles work better for me.
