Synology Surveillance License Packs for Devices are used to set up additional cameras, I/O modules, access controllers and transaction devices in your Synology Surveillance Station. By default, one DiskStation or RackStation* licenses for two devices* are installed. Additional licenses are installed on NVR* as standard. Additional licenses* for additional monitoring devices can be purchased as required. By entering the license keys in the Surveillance Station user interface, you can set up and manage more monitoring devices on your Synology product. Licensed packages for 4 or 8 monitoring devices contain a single license key, which allows you to use 4 or 8 monitoring devices. In most cases IP cameras, I/O modules and access controllers only need one license per device and transaction devices two licenses per device. However, there are some cameras that use other billing methods. See the following section for more information. You can transfer the licences to a new NAS if you decommission the old one but if you plan to use second NAS on the same network or at different location you will need a second licence for each camera. That said, the system is very configurable. I run Surveillance Station on my DS1821+ and store the CCTV footage onto a dedicated 8Gig western Digital Purple disk. The DS1821+ is also my main data server and runs my websites. I stream the surveillance from my cameras via a dedicated 1Gig link that connects to a PoE switch where the cameras are plugged into. Surveillance Station is a great system and is highly configurable. With all that in mind, I accepted the cost of Β£300 for eight licenses which, added to the 2 licenses that come with the surveillance station allows me to connect ten cameras to my system. So despite the cost, just swallow hard and pay it. You get a great system and the licenses are perpetual.
