The 1981 release was a #1 album and produced one of the biggest hits of the rock era, as “Bette Davis Eyes” became an anthem. “Voyeur” came a year later but the shadow of “Bette Davis Eyes” loomed large and “Voyeur” stumbled on the charts and none of the singles off “Voyeur” made an impact. Which is a shame since “Voyeur” is an overall far superior album then “Mistaken Identity”. Every song on “Voyeur”displays solid songwriting skills and superb musician ship. Title track is a kinky trip into early 80’s, rocky and haunting at the same time. “Looker” is a hypnotic rocker telling a story of the trap falls of beauty. “Say You Don’t Know Me” is an arena paranoia rocker with a pulsating beat which just works. “Undertow” is more of a melodic rocker as is “Merc Man”. “The Arrangement” is killer rocker with deep meaning, as is “Take It On The Chin”. “Thrill Of The Grill” is a fun sing a long rocker that makes great use of Carnes’ raspy pipes. Kim Carnes’ voice is her greatest strength. It cuts through you and you feel every emotion that she sings about. Just listen to “Does It Make You Remember”. A chillingly beautiful power ballad that became a Top 40 hit, “Does It Make You Remember” should have been an across the board smash but some how it didn’t happen as stations and radio programmers criminally overlook the “Voyeur” album and all the songs on it. A shame since “Voyeur” has so much to offer and further demonstrated Carnes’ talents as a singer, songwriter, lyricist and entertainer. The sound here is amazing. And preserving the iconic album cover art front and back is simply genius. The over all look is sleek and has a feel of a vinyl record in mini form. The quality is very good though somewhat enhanced comparing to the original LP but in the end of the day I'm the least concerned about modern enhancement of my favorite album by this outstanding Lady of my days of future gone forever in the sands of time. This album follows the smash hit album that had Betty Davis Eyes on it, but man it goes in a totally different direction. I waited well for over 20 years for this CD release. This is a must have for a true Kim Carnes fan.
