The hooks seem sturdy. and theywork great. i also figured out that if yo wanted more of a breeze you just hook the bottom to the top hooks and it gives you half a panel. or you can do that side to side. You can also leave them on when you put it away. I love my clam. It got caught in the wind and hit my van so hard it busted my taillight but it collapsed inside itself and works fine. The panels were on at the time and they were fine also. Just remember about high winds. I had heavy duty pegs in the ground also. It would be great if they sold them in packs of 6. or packs of 4 for the smaller clam. Side Velcro matches tabs. Sides stretch tight on sides. Hooks are plastic and let top of panel sag. Gap is significant as seen from inside. Top has only two Velcro anchors that do not match the three on the pop up and do not match the window Velcro. Am frustrated with the poor manufacturing and info.
