A: Hi there, Yes. This is what the adaptor is made for. Just connect your Cat5e cable into the adapter and the other end into your router (link port) Regards.

**Q: Wall has a bt Jack and my router has only a ethernet port. Would this work if I use a standart ethernet cable after plugging it into the wall?**
A: Probably not. I assume the BT type socket is a phone line connection. If you are having broadband sent to the property by a phone line then it will need to be connected to a router that is designed to work with that broadband - it will usually have an RJ11 socket for this (like the standard ethernet socket by narrower with only 6 connections not 8). Even if the socket is not being used with a phone line with broadband and just happens to be connected to an unused cable that cable is unlikely to be to a suitable specification to carry standard Ethernet.

**Q: Can i use this to connect my laptop (rj45) to internet mainline (bt)?**
A: No.  You still need some sort of router which converts the signal from what comes through the telephone line to a signal your laptop will understand.  These adapters are mainly used to send telephone signal along a cat5 cable, it will not work the other way as a cat5 has 8 wires of which the network uses 4 I believe, telephones only use two wires. The router takes all the frequencies your network traffic uses and sends them out over the telephone network which is why your suggestion will not work.  If only things were that simple.

This won't allow normal Ethernet CAT 5e cable as the BT plug side has one 4 wires hooked inIt came with a sticker on it saying "CAT 6A Inline Coupler" but not sure if that's true
