​I’ve owned weather radios before, and while they're fantastic for giving advance notice of weather events, my past experience was frustrating. My older units would broadcast every single weather warning for a huge geographical area. This resulted in a tremendous amount of alerts—for thunderstorms, floods, and snow—most of which were far away and irrelevant to me. The deluge of notifications caused classic "warning fatigue", and like many others, I ended up ignoring the radio completely, eventually turning it off. ​ However, after watching the news coverage of the Texas floods, I realized just how vital these warnings are, especially for major, life-threatening events. That’s when I ran across this specific weather radio featuring S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) technology on Amazon, and after doing my homework, I knew this was the solution I needed. ​ What I truly love about this radio is its ability to provide localized warnings and, most importantly, allow me to filter events. As soon as it arrived, I set it up with my closest broadcast station and immediately filtered out everything except the major, critical events like tornadoes and localized flooding. The ability to customize exactly what you want to be warned about is a huge feature. ​Since setting it up, the experience has been night and day. In three months, I've only received two alerts, both related to localized flooding. This proves the system works exactly as intended! The alerts themselves are robust: the alarm function is incredibly loud—loud enough to wake me up—and even if I'm not home, a large, blinking red light lets me know immediately that an important warning was issued. ​ This is a quality radio that is easy to set up. Yes, you need to dedicate a few minutes to reading the instructions to properly activate S.A.M.E. and set your event filters, but that small investment of time is completely worth the peace of mind. If you're tired of false alarms, this radio is a must-have upgrade for serious weather preparedness.

quality material, easy to use, does the job!

We received this and installed it the same day. Instructions were easy to understand. It was good timing, as the next day we had a tornado warning. Our old NOAA radio did not send us a message. The new NOAA Weather Radio-S.A.M.E. Localized Programming, weather Alert radio with 80+ went off, and the warning light flashed. We had about 5 mi. or less to get to our safe place. The tornado popped up less than 3 miles from us. The tornado changed directions, but our weather radio let us take cover. The volume was great, the features were good, and the reception was loud and clear.

As described, easy to program, however the included external antenna does not increase signal strength in our fringe area.

I love this noaa weather radio. It’s easy to setup and comes with an external antenna and strobe light for alerts. And it also gets alerts faster. And it doesn’t need to be plugged into a port, it can also be powered by 4 AA batteries. It has S.A.M.E. Technology which can alert you about severe weather in your area. I prefer people to get this for better reputation and faster alerts it’s worth the money.this noaa weather radio can be powered by a power cord or batteries which is the back up power source just in case the power goes out in severe weather.

Excellent compact radio for the price--does everything you need a NOAA weather radio to do, including specific configuration of the alerts you want along with the exact counties you want. We used this radio on a long RV trip during which we ran into severe storms, tornado watches, and even a tornado warning. With the NOAA station configured for the area we were in, the radio alerted us before we got notifications on our phones. We also appreciated the audible alarm, which guaranteed that we weren't dependent on hearing our phones when an alert came. I also appreciated that the radio ran perfectly on batteries as well as AC, because we unplug our RV from AC power when there's lightning. The one thing I'd like this radio to do is show the NOAA station frequencies along with the number (1-7); NOAA's station list provides the frequency, but I had to look in the radio's booklet to map that frequency to the station number in the configuration. It's not difficult, but I had to have the booklet handy.

The radio was nice and very easy to program, It stoped working after one day and I opted to get a different radio brand. The speaker volume for the unit was not very loud. I did like the fact an external ateenna and an external light warning light was included in the price! The alerts are programable, so you can only get notified to the alerts your want. I my case I only wanted life threating notifications (boil water, evacuation, chemical spill, etc.) The radio does not have a battery power indicator, to let you know the staus of the back-up batteries.

Awesome little weather radio. Picks up all weather alerts from snow storms to tornado warnings and everything in between. The alarm is loud enough to wake the dead, which is good for super sound sleepers like me. Highly recommend this weather radio. Could just save your life!!
