A quick drying sealer which provides an excellent base for all Chestnut Products finishes which require the use of a sealer. This formula does not contain harmful petroleum solvents such as toluene and xylene. Specification Typical uses: To seal open pores of timber prior to application of lacquers, waxes or polishes. Once dry lightly sand for a smooth surface. Method of application: Brush, cloth or spray Drying time: Within five minutes under normal conditions Coverage: approx. 8-10 m per litre Compatibility: Can be used as a basecoat for Melamine Lacquer, Acrylic Gloss Lacquer, Acrylic Lacquer, Ebonising Lacquer, Acrylic Satin Lacquer, WoodWax 22, Woodturners Stick Wax, Friction Polish. Tips: One coat should be sufficient to seal the piece you are working on. Not advisable to apply more than one coat, especially when using a hard topcoat ie lacquers. I intend to stain and oil it. Will this product work, the cellulose bit confusing me. Thanks** A: This is my personal experience/opinion and others may disagree! Sealer has two benefits. 1. After sanding to bare wood, if you apply sealer and LIGHTLY sand with fine grit paper (eg 320 ish). You can get an even smoother finish and lubricants in the sealer reduce paper clogging. 2. The sealer fills the microscopic pots in the wood which allows finishes like paint, polyurethane and shellac etc to go on evenly and achieve a good finish with fewer coats. Two additional points. If you want to stain wood, you might want to apply before the sealer (the sealer hinders stain penetration into the wood). I believe there are some stains you can mix with sealer, although I have never tried this myself. Also, (this may be contentious) but I don’t use sealer if the finish needs to penetrate the wood (eg certain oils like mineral oil). However other oils that harden (eventually) such as boiled linseed oil, I have used and they seem to work okay. So sorry for the long answer but hopefully that is enough information for you to proceed. TL;DR - it depends! **Q: Is this a pore filler please** A: Depends what you mean by a pore filler. Cellulose sanding sealer is used to seal bare wood prior to applying a final finish. This could be wax, varnish or any other desired finish. The sealer fills the tiny surface pores in the wood and may raise the grain slightly so it needs to be lightly sanded before applying a final finish. I usually use 600 grit. Sanding sealer wood not be suitable for filling large pores or indentations in wood. **Q: Hi , can I use this to seal a chopping board.? Thank you** A: No. This is not an appropriate sealer for a chopping board. You need a food safe oil. **Q: Should volume be 1litre?
