They are also a source of food for large birds i.e. crows and woodpeckers as well as foxes and badgers and these birds and animals do more harm to your lawn by ripping it up to get at the grubs. It is best to treat withe nematodes in the Autumn (Sept/Oct) when the chafer grubs are newly hatched as they are the most susceptible to the nematodes PLUS the soil is warm (the treatment needs a soil temp of 12°c) and the grubs are close to the surface.
