    Mayhem and turmoil saga

*by L***E on Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2019*

Reading some of the reviews, especially the one stars I was wondering if read the same book.Yes, there were mistakes: grammatical, timeline and historical mistakes - but does that really impact the story. Or are they so critical about all of the above that they had no empathy for the plot? This is not an easy read, for sure. But, saying that, it is also a defying story of people being thrown together, helping each other and really standing together. They have accepted each other's faults as part of them. Not one of us is perfect and the author has done a wonderful storytelling by portraying it correctly in their actions and emotions. Making this an original and believable story.Life is messy, many can attest to that fact, I included. When we are confronted with the messy side of life, it looks frightening and even unbelievable but since that is part of the way we are shaped it becomes beautiful at the end.I really had found the story more than interesting, the building up, the way the characters are struggling with their own demons a gripping story of heartache but mostly of pure love. The thing that really touches our hearts and breaks the bonds of fear and turmoil. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Thanks for a wonderful saga, not shieling the ugliness but highlighting in such a manner that one is completely drawn in.

    Depression Can Involve Anyone

*by V***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2014*

Well, rats, this was Book 3 of the 1929 series, so I read it out of order since I'd read the first. Still, I'd remembered most of what got them here, the characters involved and was somewhat shocked at the turn of events that involved Aryl. Jonathan, having been greatly humiliated by the crash in which he lost his fortune and that of his parents, friends, and a LOT of clients has become somewhat subdued; no longer his previous cocky self. His closest buddies, Aryl and Caleb along with their spouses and ever-expanding families are still fending day-by-day for survival in a depression era America. They have managed to find an avenue of survival for themselves until it is thought that Aryl is lost at sea. Patrick, unfortunately is still sucking hind tit, and his eventual departure is not a pleasant one. The wives continue to struggle with providing the basics. We've been introduced to the concept of "stone soup" before--at least they have each other and are continually pooling resources. The interpersonal struggles of Caleb and Jonathan with the loss of Aryl provide the gist of this installment. It turns ugly but to reveal more would become a real spoiler. I got this as a free download and now hooked--would recommend.

    Extremely Good Read

*by T***C on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014*

I downloaded this book because it was offered for FREE on BookBub. I usually download the freebies, figuring if I don't like the book, no harm, no foul. After I downloaded it, I noticed I had already downloaded the 1st book in the series, 1929 Jonathan's Cross, which was offered for free back in October. I decided to go ahead and start reading Jonathan's Cross because I prefer to read series books in order. My only problem was this: do I download the 2nd book in the series, Elizabeth's Heart, even though it was going to cost me? (3.99-a little pricey for me considering I read 1-2 books a day) I like historical fiction, so I took a leap of faith. And I am so glad I did!! The 1929 series may be considered historical fiction, but it appeals to the mystery/thriller junkie in me. The characters are well-developed, likeable and fascinating at the same time. The story contains plot twists and lots of intrigue. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat anxious to see what happens next. When I finished the 3rd book, I immediately ponied up another $3.99 for Drifter, the 4th book in the series and downloaded the novella, Purgatory Cove, billed as book 5. Money well spent!!!
