They both measured the exact same tempature. I actually got distracted after turning on the stove to hat up some oil. When I smelled it I of course freaked out and removed it from the burner. Out of curiosity I wondered at what tempature it would have burst into flames? So glad I still don't know but I can tell you the heat gun showed that oil was over 700 degrees! Somebody was definitely looking over me that night.. Great product. Great price and I would definitely buy it again.
