I bought it to smooth inexpensive bamboo crochet hooks, and to perhaps file down aluminum or steel ones to create the inline hook style I prefer.Don't worry about the handle not being covered. They have grip marks cut on them, which may also come in handy for using that 'cut' to file something. And if you need to put that much pressure on the file, you can use a small bit of cloth or grip cloth to protect your hand.Comes in a nice plastic case (red with clear on the face) with a flap that snaps closed.If you or someone you know sews, you could make a fabric case, but until the plastic ages, it's not necessary.
