This time, "the Plastics" clique of popular girls that rule the school consists of Mandi (Maiara Walsh), Chastity (Claire Holt), and Hope (Nicole Gale Anderson)--three extremely self-absorbed girls who butt heads with the ungainly Abby (Jennifer Stone) and new transfer student Jo (Meaghan Martin). In a different twist, Jo befriends Abby because Abby's father bribes Jo with the promise of paying her college tuition. Similar to the first film, Jo sets out to infiltrate the Plastics' inner circle to sabotage them, but is seduced by the benefits of popularity and begins to lose her way. This second film is not as funny as the first, due in large part to the absence of Tina Fey's wit, but there's still plenty of sarcasm and humor. Meaghan Martin does a nice job with the leading role, Jennifer Stone is quite believable as the eclectic, shunned artistic type, and if the performances of Nicole Gale Anderson and Claire Holt seem shallow and overdone, it's likely because the characters they play demand it.
