Review: Excellent performance, easy swapping and additional cooling - I originally bought two of these to enable easy swapping of drives in a backup server. They have worked flawlessly since then, running 24/7 for over a year. The build is robust and swapping out drives is very easy. I later added one to my desktop PC because I have a 24TB drive that runs very hot, but the built in fans in this enclosure also cool the drives far more than any case fan. Since moving the drive to the enclosure I have had no problem with overheating. So, great for swapping drives but also great for cooling drives.
Review: Work as it should - Work as it should, i used this for mostley for sas drives you will need a sas card and a lead to get the correct speed and to work the sas drives, also can be used for sata drives as well or plugged direct to the motherboard for sata only but speed is limited to sata speeds. you can only use sas Drives with a sas card.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you replace rear fan with quiet aftermarket?**
A: I went as far as to buy a 80 mm to 120 mm adapter and stick an ultra quiet 120 mm fan.  The result is exactly what I wanted -- quiet running, more air drawn over the drives, and cooler drives.

**Q: Is trayless or ones with trays better for minimizing rattles and vibration?**
A: I can't answer the vibration or rattle comparison, but I have had this unit since Oct. 2014, and have had no issues with the unit or hard drives going bad?  I am using in a home server running 24/7.  I bought it in case I needed to swap drives, but i haven't had to yet...

**Q: Does this work with 6tb western digital red hard drives?**
A: works with any SATA or SAS hard drive (obviously you must connect the drive bay to a Sata or Sas controller).  We use western digital RE drives and one thing you need to be aware, once you insert the drive, you need to open the door slightly and push drive firmly unto the backplane with your thumb, then reclose the door.  This ensures a square and fully inserted drive onto the backplane.

**Q: Do i need a separate power supply cable?**
A: Yes, you can run one cable from the PSU peripheral to the cage.  But be ware, do not daisy chain more than one cage (if you buy more than one).   Each drive can consume up to 10-12 Watts depending on your drive, and say another 2 watts for the fan itself, and you are getting close to the 56 Watt limit for a line on the PSU/SATA spec.

I am very happy with the function and quality of this unit. One thing I forgot was that since it does not require a tray for the hard disc drive cannot use with 2.5"drives without purchasing an adapter to convert them to 5.25" drives. A little bit awkward to pull out the drive when it has been ejected, but this is a very minor quibble.
