ROLLING STONES THE IT`S ONLY ROCK`N ROLL (REMASTERS 2009)

Review: It's only rock and roll but I like it!! - This is another great, rocking album put forth from The Rolling Stones! I found this one to rock a little harder than "Goats Head Soup" - this one is more like "Exile" in that department. I really liked the 2009 remaster of this one! I've always liked this album but the sound quality on the 1994 Virgin remaster wasn't that good - made all the songs sound muddy with the instruments all packed together, which made it uninteresting to me after the first listen. But as with "Goats Head Soup" this 2009 remaster is vastly improved! The instruments sound more separated and turned up to the proper level to balance out with the vocals! I like all the songs on this one except "If You Really Want To Be My Friend"... this one is way too slow and R&B-ish for my liking - I don't think it fits well on this album so I always skip it to get good continuity! The other songs are great! "It's Only Rock And Roll" is a classic rock gem that never gets old - I never get tired of hearing it! "Dance Little Sister" and "If You Can't Rock Me" are two rip-roaring rockers! "Luxury" is a little slower-paced but still rocks! "Till The Next Time" is more acoustic based but still fits well with the rest of the songs. "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" is a cover of a motown-type song (or I believe it was a motown song).. anyway - the Stones make it their own and it comes across great on this album! "Time Waits For No One" is a good song but I thought it was a little draggy and could have ended at around the 5:30 mark or so - but even still the guitar riffs/licks are great in that one, reminded me a little of "Gimme Shelter"! "Short And Curlies" is kind of a country-sounding rocker with great lyrics! And who could forget "Fingerprint File"?? - this is in the same vein as Bob Dylan's "Talking John Birch Paranoid Blues" as far the type of song it is! It's about being paranoid and worried about the government always watching! But this song really rocks and deserves the 6 1/2 minute treatment it gets! This one could go 8 or 9 mins. as far as I'm concerned! So this is a great album - I'm giving it 5 stars and definitely recommend it!
Review: great album - love this record

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Maestro Mick...
*by R***O on September 26, 2021*

Arguably one of the Stone’s best AOR’s, masterful song writing, and Mick Taylor’s virtuosic guitar playing. Was his last album with them. Gotta admire their longevity, now sadly sans Charlie Watts. Taylor brought riffs/leads he developed from Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and created a brilliant guitar duo with Keith that the Stones were never able to repeat. Ron Wood’s a totally different player, and think his best work was with Rod Stewart and the Faces. It’s Only Rock n Roll, Dance Little Sister, Til the Next Goodbye and Time Waits for No One are absolute gems. It’s written that Taylor was inspired by a trip to Brazil that led to his searing lead work on Time Waits for No One, and the Stones reportedly had never used the Imaj7 - IV chords as accompaniment for a guitar solo.
