Kind regards Scalewatcher. **Q: What length of pipe is needed for an effective coil to go around?** A: You need 4 inches of straight pipe ideally before the stop cock but it can go after the stop cock and it doesn't matter if the pipe is vertical, horizontal or diagonal. 4 inches is the amount you need for 11 turns of the coil with space either side. Kind regards, Annie (Scalewatcher) **Q: How do you knw if stopped working?** A: Well the normal life span is up to 20 years depending on what type of water you have , very hard water will reduce this by a couple of years. So to your question, if your appliances and taps will show signs of limescale. If this happens it is time to replace the unit , we live in a hard water area and got 18 years out of our ScaleWatcher . Dawn **Q: How many years before this needs replacing - and how do you know when it is failing?** A: I have had this for over a year now and to be honest I have not really seen a difference in the amount of lime scale I see deposited on my taps shower screen etc. so I think the answer to your question from my point of view is that you wouldn't notice if it is running or not. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EXCELLENT ANTI- LIMESCALE FITTING *by M***Y on 19 November 2015* Excellent item. Fitted well into area required. Could tell the difference in water in about 3 weeks. Would recommend to anyone and do.This Scalewatcher was fitted in Norfolk, Norwich area. Known for limescale. It is not the first I have fitted. Prior to moving to Norfolk, I lived in North Kent. This is on the North Downs and is a very chalky area. I fitted quite a few whilst working there and to date, have never heard a bad word about them. As a Plumber, I find them extremely easy and quick to fit. The bonus being not having to isolate water and cut into pipes etc. A very good product all round. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to install, but beware power lead length. *by T***E on 29 November 2015* Fitted this only a few weeks ago. Really easy to fit and water tasted different after just a few days - too early to be sure of true effectiveness. Note please that while specified (on scalewatcher website and in delivery documents) as having a 3m power lead, mine arrived with only 2.7m between main box and mains plug. Because I had to take the lead through a wall, I had to cut off and replace the plug, so became a little shorter even than that. ### ⭐ Lime scale has not gone after 9 months *by D***R on 2 May 2021* This has been in a year and has not got rid of the build up of scale.
