It has an IC chip that stores info. **Q: Does this unit use solid state relays? I need reliability and can't have it flooding due to not shutting off.** A: Not sure what type of relays, however, I have had mine for almost three years and hasn't failed me yet ... would buy again if needed **Q: so if I set it to 40 rh it will turn off my humidifier when it reaches 40 then turn back on when its higher than 40 rh?** A: The controller is not that precise, it will turn on and off within 2-4 counts of the setting. Normally you would want the humidifier to run until the humidity increased up to your setting and then turn off. It seems from your description that you may want to control a Dehumidifier which would need to be controlled as you have described, if so, this controller will handle this OK. You just have to select the function for inverting the on / off cycle. It should control within a small window of the actual Hi and Lo settings you program. To set parameter, Press and HOLD SET for 3 seconds to enter setup mode2. The screen should now display ON.3. Press the Up or Down button until the parameter you wish to reset is displayed.4. Now that the parameter (ON, OFF, P7, CA, AH, AL) is displayed, press SET again to select it.5. Then press up or down till you find the value you wish to set the selected parameter.6. To lock it in, press SET one more time.7. Repeat for each parameter by going back to Step 38. To exit programming mode, press POWERIf you hesitate more than about 8 seconds the unit will exit setup modeON = Humidity to turn ON atOFF = Humidity to turn OFF atP7 = Defines the time interval in minutes, between off and on again cyclesCA = Calibration — If measured humidity is 3% higher than the real humidity, set CA=-3.AH = It will beep once humidity exceeds AH (High Humidity). Good value.I built a humidifier myself with a large plastic tub and a House of Hydro 5 head Head Water Fogger and tested it for 3 days. After it seemed to be working great I ordered this WILLHI WH1436H control unit to automate it.The WILLHI WH1436H control unit sensor is sensitive, breath on it and the humidity jumps up quickly and then settles back to where it was quickly.Setup was super easy.Durability... I have only had it for a week or so, under the circumstances I can't comment on durability yet.I have a 3000 sq ft 2 story house and it now stays at 50% down stairs where I keep the humidifier and 48% humidity upstairs. Before is was in the low to mid 30% range.UPDATE - it has now been 5 and a half months and this unit is still working perfect.
