It can "image stitch" to approximately twice the size of the platen. "A3 (A4 x 2) Scans the left and right halves of an A3 size item separately" Just tried it and it works well by scanning the left and right halves of an A3 size item separately and stitching them together. I don't have an A3 printer but it looks good on-screen. **Q: How do I increase the dpi for black and white photos? The scanner is set at 600 max** A: The drop down menu simply provides quick access to some dpi settings. Even though the maximum is shown as 1200, for example, you simply highlight it and type in your desired dpi. You can do this up to the scanner's maximum resolution. However, the scanner can use interpolated resolutions and these very high figures are not true optical resolutions, and you only end up with huge file sizes, not what you may be expecting! HOWEVER, these high resolutions are only intended for 35mm film originals, not photographic prints. 300dpi is fine for larger prints, but you may find 600dpi will give you more leeway if you wish to print larger than the original photo size. There is a simple relationship between scan dpi and printing dpi. Where both are the same, the print will be the same as the original. 300dpi is more than adequate for a 6x4" photo. If you scan at 600dpi, but print at 300dpi, the new photo will be twice the size. **Q: Does this have good depth of field? I need to be able to scan small paintings within their frames and get sharp results.
