A lot of other bed-desks come from one side (like a U shape rotated 90 degrees), and over time the counter eventually sags from the weight putting stress on one side. Also, the frame is completely metal AND is soft to the touch. I live in Hawaii, so it had to travel across the pacific ocean, and nothing arrived broken or damaged! Although I dislike particle board, I understand that the cost would skyrocket if the counter was solid wood (not to mention the shipping weight would be disgusting). Another thing to consider is the countertop. We use this literally daily, and we slide it to the foot of the bed when we go to sleep so we don't accidentally kick things off the counter.
