Also red all the four HeartMath books and i can say that the science behind this gizmo is questionable at least. There is a lot of quotes on real scientific research about the heart, but when it comes to their concept of balance, the quality of the research drops dramatically. If you really want to measure your heart rate variability and your conclusions to be valid, do not buy this product. Go for the Suunto td6, Garmin Forerunner, or Firstbeat's Bodyguard 2. It had been known as the PSR until version 2 came out. If an illusion of measuring and concluding something is enough, feel free to purchase the product. ### ⭐⭐ Expensive placebo? *by J***J on 24 April 2014* I bought my initial emwave2 and then discovered that it continued to function even when disconnected from my ear, I observed it for over 5 minutes doing this before switching it off. I spoke to Amazon, who obligingly offered a refund as they thought that what I described indicated a fault. On the assumption that the first machine was faulty but that I had had a good relaxing experience, I bought another one (and got caught in a price rise of £5!). The second product showed the same 'fault' so I contacted Relax (the supplying company) who put me in contact with Heartmath, the US supplier to Relax. I was advised that this was not necessarily a fault, with a technical explanation of the way the machine functions. Having 2 emwaves briefly in my possession, I decided to try a second experiment. I attached one emwave to each ear and discovered that they ran wildly different results for most of the 20mins I had them attached (eg red button blinking on one whilst the green was on the other etc). As the machines were both at their factory settings and, at last check, I only had one heart, this really did seem to indicate a problem, so I wrote again to Heartmath. Essentially Heartmath gave a response that 1) as I got a benefit from the machine did it matter that it might not be accurate, 2) as the machines were not medical grade, there was no guarantee on accuracy, and 3) the only way to tell if there was a problem was to run both the machines on separate computers to compare them. Unfortunately I had to return the first machine so was unable to carry out this suggested experiment. Although placebos can work, even if you're aware that they are placebos, in my opinion it seems an awfully expensive placebo, with an overly casual attitude by the seller to these issues, however politely and thoroughly explained.
