I actually just wanted a blank space there for front access to the rack guts and the patch panel as equipment is added and subtracted from the rack every so often, so I figured a little storage would be a better use of that space. The rack has a 10Β° slant backward, so I have to hold the drawer open to retrieve wires and whatnot, but it doesn't slam when I let go; it's not hydraulic or self closing but it's really close to that.
