There are few greater pleasures in life than enjoying a wonderful glass of wine. So why does finding and choosing one you like seem so stressful? Now, becoming a happier, more confident wine drinker is easy. The first step is to forget all the useless, needlessly complicated stuff the โexpertsโ have been telling you. In The New Wine Rules , acclaimed wine writer Jon Bonnรฉ explains everything you need to know in simple, beautifully illustrated, easy-to-digest tidbits. And the news is good! For example: A wineโs price rarely reflects its quality. You can drink rosรฉ any time of year. Donโt save a great bottle for anything more than a rainy day. Review: Quick Read. - Nice little book. A quick read with outstanding guidance. It is genuinely helpful as the title implies. Drink with Joy.. Review: Great "wine-newbie" book! - I have a LOT of "getting-to-know-and-understand-wine" books. I live in the SoCal wine country of Temecula which is growing leaps and bounds in perfecting their wines (we have over 50 wineries and rumor has it, this will double in the next few years), so I am reading about all I can about grapes, vines, wineries and the final results. This small book of 150 pages, a lot of which is just artsy, and only 5"x7" in size, won't scare you off if you are new to wine and interested in the "back story" and language of wine. Highly recommend for those just getting into wine tasting. (P.S. This is hot off the presses as of Nov 14, 2017, so is very up to date in its info!)

Good tips
Lots of good, relevant information for the novice and interested โwinoโ, and actually also OK as repetition for the intermediate, who will probably recognize most of the info as something they have picked up during their first 10 years as aficionados in spe...

Jon's book made me think deeply about wine - it's a lot more than a book of "wine rules"
I agree with many of the other reviewers that Jon's book is enjoyable for both novices and veteran wine drinkers or producers/sommeliers. Jon's approach is refreshing. I found myself thinking a lot about snobby wine rules - such as what kind of glass to use - which are not always relevant. I don't completely agree with Jon about topics such as sustainability (it is important to think about how to sustain the environment, climate change and the communities around wine, while still being able to pay salaries,) but throughout the book, even the things I somewhat disagreed with made me think more deeply about wine. Wine is deep, wine is art, wine is the most romantic food in the world because of its diversity and history. Jon's book ends up being a lot more than a book about "wine rules."

Not for a wine lover searching for helpful guidance, good for people w little Wine knowledge.
Despite this being one of the top recommended books for Somalia, it is written for people that donโt even know how to properly open a bottle of wine. This may be helpful for young people without any knowledge or experience how to approach their journey to wine appreciation. But for anyone with even a moderate level of wine knowledge, this is more than pedestrian.

Probably the least pretentious book you will ever read about wine
This is a great, well written, concise book filled with real world information. If you're a professional somm or high end wine snob than this isn't for you, but for us few glasses a week consumers this is filled with useful information.

Brief and informative
Picked this up for my better half based upon the 12 best wine books list in 2018 from the NY Magazine. It is informative and is a great introduction to what wine is and, I think, what wine is not supposed to be. It doesn't make wine excessively complicated but points out great places or topics to start becoming more informed. It's a perfect house warming present or present for those in your life with a nascent interest in wine.

The Best Advice
This book is how I have come to enjoy wine. It is a reaffirmation that a person enjoys their wine the best when they have learned to relax into the buying and drinking of their favorite wines regardless of the current fashions or any of the โrulesโ the experts would have them follow. Have fun, try many wines and develop your own fashions of enjoyment.

Fascinating and very approachable
I love this series of books, because they are so approachable and easy to read. The author packs a lot into this book without being overly wordy or going into unnecessary detail. This book will take you from knowing nothing to knowing quite a lot about how to appreciate and enjoy Itโs completely changed the way that I drink wine and I get a lot more enjoyment from drinking wine now.
