I was expecting the stem to be thicker and the ‘tree’ more robust. The one I received was about as thick as a pencil at the base and rises to a thin, wispy twig. Would pay more and get a larger specimen next time from elsewhere, as this is only a few months old and will take years to become close to a decent size, if it survives. I did not contact the seller as too much hassle and expense, to pack up and return. Will update further once established. Update. 05/11/2022. Well, it is established and have to say, it looks totally amazing, it has grown so quickly to about 12’ and in another year or so, will be beautiful. So, the moral of the story is, size isn’t everything. It just remained as a bare stick. Generally birches grow quite tall so I would have thought that it would very quickly outgrow a pot. **Q: best time to buy and plant?** A: I planted mine in early autumn (2 years ago)and it's well established and growing well and healthy looking.
